Mother Nature Threatens, March 26, 2012

You know those lovely spring days we've been enjoying.  They are a double-edged sword for farmers and winery owners - for that warm spell was long enough to make everything bloom and bud out - apricots, peaches, cherries, and yes, our grapes.

If that frost that is now forecasted for Monday arrives and stays as long as we think it will, it will mean devastation for all of these fruit crops for this year...

More soon as we follow the weather reports!

  1. Tuesday: we woke up to a hard frost here in Westchester County, and anxiously await news from the Lake Erie shoreline. How severe was the cold in your overnight, and how much damage?

  2. Dear Robin,
Your anxieties are well-placed. Hard freeze last night - in the 20's and just 29 after sun-up. The old timers have never seen such a warm spell - nor the impact of such a freeze. It will be a disaster for the region's 2012 crops.
